Job Requirements
Must be 18 years of age
Must be a Registry Level 3 or higher
Background verification check
Read staff policy and procedure handbook and sign that you understand its context
Fill out required forms to be kept in your personnel file
Complete and pass a physical and TB skin test within thirty days of hire
Attend monthly staff meetings, in-services and annual Board meeting
Be able to lift to forty pounds
Job Responsibilities

Know and follow the mission of Small World Inc. of New Glarus
Protect the privacy and confidentiality of information pertaining to families, children, team members, administration, and Board of Directors
Build positive relationships and communicate in a respectful manner with families, children, team members, administration, Board of Directors, and the communities in which we serve
Employees must have 25 hours of continuing education per calendar year
Attend one Early Childhood Conference
Minimum of two hours in classroom management
Minimum of two hours in communication/professionalism
Minimum of four hours in curriculum planning
Observe and follow the dress code as described in the staff policy handbook
Avoid behavior that diminishes the reputation of Small World Inc., while following laws and regulations put in place to prioritize the protection of children under our care
Model positive behavior for children, families, and other team members
Contribute to the improvement of the program by sharing and using information gained from attending Early Childhood conferences or professional meetings
Arrive to work as scheduled and be available for work as required to maintain ratios and best practices
Be flexible to the changing needs of the team members, board members, administration, and Small World Inc. as a whole
Support a positive image of Small World Inc. both internally and externally, handle sensitive issues regarding other team members, board members and administration in confidence and do not convey or encourage the spread of negative information
Display strong communication skills through listening, empathy, positive nonverbal communication, concision, friendliness, confidence, respect, open-mindedness, and compassion
Be open and receptive to feedback and suggestions from board members, team members, and other customers
Customer Interactions
“Customer” is defined as children, families, employees, board members, and stakeholders
Respect the dignity and basic rights of each child, family, and employee without discrimination
Greet each family at drop off and pick up times. Seek and share relevant information
Provide classroom newsletters, an active Seesaw account, emails and phone calls to regularly communicate with families
Seek out parental input of their individual child on how to best meet their family’s needs. Work as a partner to each family
Interact verbally and non-verbally with a respectful tone of voice and manner
Know and follow Small World Inc. positive guidance procedures as described in the staff policy handbook
Treat all customers equally and respectfully
Be supportive of all customers and their family situations
Actively participate in parent/teacher conferences twice/year
Attend one community event and all Small World events each year
Answer the telephone by identifying Small World and giving your name and relay phone messages promptly
CLASSROOM Responsibilities
Provide an inviting, secure, and comfortable environment for children, families, and employees
Be respectful of the children’s individual needs and interact with children at their level
Always be aware of the entire classroom’s activities
Actively participate in the creation and implementation of the weekly lesson plans
Demonstrate flexibility as the children’s needs change
Provide a balance of active and quiet activities
Provide a balance of child-initiated and teacher-initiated activities throughout the day
Maintain well-written anecdotal notes on each child’s developmental progress or concerns
Document milestone observations in each child’s individual assessment book
Treat children of all races, religions, and cultures equally with respect and consideration
Utilize one community resource per month (library, field trip, community resource, etc.)
Arrange the classroom space to facilitate a variety of small and large group activities and individual activities, as well as a quiet space children can use
Implement a pleasant and inviting classroom atmosphere in which both children and adults feel comfortable and secure
Keep the classroom clear of clutter, organized and safe
Display children’s artwork and family photos at eye-level for the children
Health, Safety and Nutrition
Follow Small World Inc.’s medication administration policy
Follow Small World Inc.’s walking policy
Document and report an accident or incident of children or team members
Know and practice fire and tornado procedures
Always supervise children by sight and sound
Report maintenance issues to administration immediately
Eating surfaces must be washed with soapy water followed by sanitizer before and after each use
Diaper changing areas must be washed with soapy water followed by sanitizer before and after each use
Toys must be sanitized every night upon closing your classroom
Toys that come into contact with a child’s mouth must be placed in a container to be sanitized in the kitchen that night
Model good eating habits by sitting at the table with the children and participating in each meal
Document meal counts on the DPI food count sheet located in each classroom within 15 minutes of serving each meal
When appropriate, inform administration and families of concerns regarding any child
Education Requirements
Twenty-five hours of continuing education per calendar year
Attend one early childhood conference per year
Attend one leadership-focused conference per year
Minimum of four hours of leadership, communication, or management training per year
